At the end of WW2 the Soviets and Americans were racing each other for the spoils of war. This led to the division of Germany and Korea. The Vietnam and Afghan wars were supported by the US precisely to counter the Soviets. Loose weapons in Afghanistan backfired on the US, and now they're waging war to stop it. The US need not save everyone's ass, BUT THEY DO HAVE TO CLEAN UP THEIR OWN MESS
